First of all, the car has 108,000 miles on it and my wife still LOVES it. We bought the car used w/ 24,000 mi on it (19" rims, Grand Touring pearl white, mint condition). Soon after my wife noticed some peeling. She asked her detailer about it and he thought the first owner had put something on them that made them peel. It has progressed since then to the point you see in the picture. About a year ago, she asked the Mazda dealer she takes the vehicle to for servicing and he suggested getting them refinished. There was no mention that it was a common problem on the 19" wheels. We are about to pull the trigger on getting them replaced, $1500-2000 installed, depending on the rim.
Update from May 12, 2022: After seeing the previous complaints about rims peeling, my wife went back to the dealer and asked them to help out with the costs of the new rims because they knew that it was a common problem. Well, the dealer and Mazda came back and said that if she paid $250 bucks, they would take all 4 rims and get them refinished. My wife really wanted to keep a Mazda emblem on her rims so she jumped at their offer. She had it done 2 weeks ago, they had the car all week but gave her a loaner to use. They look beautiful, hopefully they won't start peeling.
