The shaft that operates the emergency brake corrodes and sticks so that the rear calipers will not release. It was subject to a recall 1217F that did not prevent the problem. My brakes are sticking and when I took the car to Green Mazda in Springfield Illinois, they would not fix the problem.
Update from Jan 18, 2022: I bought new calipers and installed myself.
