I do a lot of freeway driving so of course I occasionally have small pebbles hit my windshield. I had a Honda Civic for about 15 years and only ever had 2 very small chips that occurred in all that time. Four days after purchasing this Mazda 6, I had a small pebble hit my windshield and it created a starburst crack that had to be fixed right away to prevent it from spreading (about $65 to fix). Over the next year I had two more chips occur that I've been keeping my eye on to make sure they weren't getting any bigger. Two days ago (1.5 years after purchasing the car), another small pebble hit my windshield and this time it instantly created a 6" long crack coming down from the top of the windshield, and it spread REALLY quickly. By the time I got home it was 9" down and then spread sideways another 3". Windshield was not repairable this time and had to be replaced for $318. It just seems as though this windshield can't stand up to being hit by even the smallest debris. ANYTHING that comes into contact with the windshield instantly cracks it!
