Mazda had recalled the front sub-frame due to the use of cheap materials, but never recalled the rear. Now, the rear is rusted out, all of the bolts have rusted out. Dealer says due to the severity of the rusted sub-frame, just to replace this part, they will need to replace the rear coil springs, the rear sway bar links and bushings, the rear tow links, and the passenger and driver side upper and lower control arms for an estimated cost of $5,000 to repair.
I do live in New England, but I have been very diligent about washing the salt and sand from the undercoat. I am the only owner the car has had. There are not a lot of miles on it given it's a 2010 (around 120k miles). The fact that Mazda recalled the front sub-frame, but thought the rear would be okay is ludicrous. Mazda knew they were using cheap materials and they should own up and replace the issues that are arising with their Mazda owners. This car should easily have lasted another 10+ years.
Don't buy a Mazda if you live in a 4 seasons area. Winters and Mazdas do not mix well.
