I have a Mazda 6 TS (09 reg.)which is barely 5 years old and the alloys as you can see are very badly corroded. This has been a known issue with Mazda referenced in online forums for approx. 10 years. Mazda knows about this and in some cases admits liability in that if the car is beyond its 3 year anti-corrosion warranty they will replace or pay towards replacing the alloys so long as the car has less than 100k on the clock. Mine fits that criteria but they will not do anything about it using the excuse that because the car has not been serviced by a Mazda approved dealer (mine has been serviced the last 2 years by an independent garage) they will not replace or help replace the alloys.
I feel double standards are being demonstrated here. By replacing alloys beyond the 3 year warranty, they are admitting they know there is an issue but are excluding customers who have had cars independently serviced. (they say alloys are apparently not covered by the 12 year anti-perforation warranty, mine look perforated to me!)
The alloys are obviously defective and not designed for UK heavily salted roads. Mazda know this yet do nothing to improve the quality of the alloys and make them fit for purpose. I feel they should replace mine. They look so bad that the resale value of my car will have seriously been dented as to replace them with generic ones will cost me approx. £400!
I am disgusted with the treatment I have received from Mazda, they admit to the problem but pick and choose who to help based on superfluous criteria such as where the car was serviced which has no bearing on the condition of the alloys. Servicing at Mazda would not have halted the deterioration of the alloys and I feel this is a gambit to reduce the amount of alloys they have to replace. All these cars with this problem should have had alloys replaced with decent ones as a product recall in my opinion!
