CarComplaints.com Notes: The MAZDA6 was redesigned for the 2009 model year. Like any first-year product, it has a few growing pains – most notably a shiny, melting dashboard that can blind the driver.

Original owner, purchased new, current mileage 35,700. The rear subframes and suspension links are severely rusted and deteriorating rapidly, making this car unsafe to drive unless most (or all) the components are replaced and the metal subframes rust treated. This is a well known problem among owners and the Mazda 6 has been recalled for rusted front subframes but not for the rear. The car spent 4 of its 13 years in upstate New York and the remainder in Alexandria VA and has shared parking space, car washes and normal maintenance with the family's 2000 BMW Z3, which has been driven 115,000 miles and shows no subframe/suspension rust damage. Mazda should be made to recall this and its other vehicles with this problem and either make the repairs or offer a substantial settlement for the inevitable scrappage of the car. I'm pursuing a class action lawsuit.

Component - Rear subframe/crossmember. Yes it is available for inspection. I was driving and suddenly heard a loud crack and the rear drivers side of my vehicle dropped to the ground. I was getting ready to pull into a parking lot so I was luckily driving slowly. If I were traveling at the normal speed limit, I could have wrecked and possibly caused injury to myself or others on the road. Upon inspection from the mechanic, the rear subframe is completely rusted out and broke as a result. After research, I found that the front subframe/crossmember was recalled in 2018 for rust issues. This car had the recalled repaired. But Mazda has no recall for the rear. There were no warnings that this was going to happen.

Hello, back a few years ago Mazda issued a recall for the front subframe of our Mazda 6 due to premature and extremely damaging rust that rendered the vehicle dangerous. We had this replaced and all was fine until not that long ago when we had to repair an exhaust leak and in the process realized how bad the rear subframe is rusted out as well... I've noticed the back wheels of our car have been cambered out by a few degrees for a few months and I'm pretty sure this is due to the rear suspension and rear subframe components collapsing on themselves due to the rust weakening the metal. I have some pictures which I will attach. Mazda currently does not have a recall for this part but we would, and many other Mazda owners out there on the forums would like a recall to be issued due to the extremely expensive nature of the subframe repair... I would really love to hear back from you all on this issue, I believe the car is fairly unsafe to drive at the moment... thanks in advance!

The car has only 31,000 original miles and I'm the original owner. The entire rear subframe and suspension assy is heavily rusted and suspension bushings are rotting.this is a common problem among owners in North eastern states and mid atlantic. Mazda recalled the front subframes but not the rear. This is a major safety defect and will result in the car having to be scrapped before it accumulates many more miles.

The contact owns a 2009 Mazda 6. the contact received a recall notice back in March of 2019 for NHTSA campaign number: 18V631000 (suspension, structure). The contact called garden city Mazda at 516-874-0385 and informed them that the parts to remedy the recall were unavailable. The contact was informed that when the parts arrived, the dealer would email her to have the vehicle serviced. The contact had yet to receive a notification to have the recall remedied. Also, while driving 40 mph, the vehicle began to jerk while depressing the accelerator pedal as well as when shifting gears. The contact stated the check engine warning indicator would illuminate intermittently both prior and after she experienced the failure. The contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic, but it was not diagnosed. The mechanic suspected that there had been an oil leak that affected the transmission. The manufacturer had not been notified of the failures. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 94,000.

I brought my 2009 Mazda6 in for the recalled front cross member corrosion safety recall. After an inspection I was told it qualified for a replacement. I authorized the work and picked the car up a few days later. We did not receive the normal maintenance sheet. After driving the car the next few days the at (automatic transmission) light came on and transmission started to slip. We serviced the transmission fluid with 3 quarts and found damage and leak just above the cross member recall repair. We returned the car to the dealer and informed Mazda customer care. Walser Mazda of burnsville said the transmission line has rusted and repair costs would be around $400. I said the damage to the line was when the recall repair was done. The car was driven less than 250 miles since the repair and leaked out 3 quarts of fluid. I believe the sharp edge of the cross member damaged the transmission line when the recall repair was done. Damage should be the cost of the dealer. Document possible damage when this recall is preformed.

This report is concerning a dealer, matt castrucci Mazda, in dayton, Ohio. This dealer failed to offer us, the customer, an appointment to inspect our vehicle for safety due to the recall on Mazda 6S for the suspension, structure recall. We repeatedly called to schedule an appointment and were repeatedly told that they did not have the parts and that they would contact us when they received the parts. We called several times from the date of receiving the recall until finally we called and they said they had the parts. We scheduled the appointment. When we arrived, they stated they did not have the parts but we had a few other things for them to look at so they kept the vehicle. They did then inspect the vehicle and found it unsafe to drive. We are very upset that our son was driving an unsafe vehicle and believe that it was the dealer's responsibility to have recommended to us that we bring it in for inspection the first time we called for an appointment and this did not happen. I asked the dealer to forego a charge for a test they performed regarding a tire pressure indicator light as consideration for their mishandling of the situation, for which they refused, refusing to acknowledge that they should have scheduled an appointment to inspect our vehicle the first time we called to preclude a customer driving an unsafe vehicle. I would like for someone to file a report that this dealer is incompetent and willfully and intentionally were neglectful of their duty to inspect a vehicle for a safety recall when contracted by the customer..

Driving to work on highway 44 when I noticed the handling was really bad. Had to come to a quick stop and applied brake pressure when rhw xar suddenly swerves to the right. Upon getting the car under control I had to run thw sterring wheel 3/4 to the left to keep the car going straight. Made it to work by driving slow and conitinuing steering left. Called a tow truck to have it towed to a shop. My mechanic replaced a wheel bearing and took it for a drive. He lost complete control of thw car twice; took it back to the shop and discovered the subframe completely rusted out and was the cause of the problem

The contact owns a 2009 Mazda 6. the contact called on behalf of the driver. While driving 55 mph, the vehicle shook violently and pulled to the right. In addition, the traction control warning indicator illuminated. Also, the a arm was detached and the frame was corroded. An independent mechanic inspected the vehicle and stated that a new subframe would be needed. The contact called paul miller Ford at (888) 776-0844 (located at 975 E new circle rd, lexington, ky 40505), but no assistance was offered. The vehicle was not repaired. Last year, on my mechanic's advice, I purchased a structural cross member for my 2009 Mazda 6. mechanic said cross member was in severely deteriorated condition, and required immediate attention. I can provide invoices if appropriate. Total cost, part plus labor, was roughly $1000.. fortunately we caught this problem before a steering issue or other problem arose.

Vehicle has a grinding/buzzing sound (when vehicle is in motion) coming from the front passenger side. Took the vehicle to a mechanic to be inspected and extensive rust and corrosion was found on the subframe. I am thankful that this was discovered before a major malfunction which could lead to a serious accident or death. From reading the many complaints of this problem on this website, I hope that madza will address this issue.

I backed out of my driveway, which has a slight curb to it, and heard a clunk or pop from the front of the car. Drove down my street and to a highway on-ramp and while turning onto the ramp the steering felt loose (required more steering angle than normal to turn same amount). While on the highway, to keep the car straight, the wheel needed to be held turned left ~20degrees. I drove to the 1st exit to get off the highway right away, and while applying brakes, the car pulled to the right. Going on city streets to try to return home, a traffic light turned yellow, and applied brakes again and car pulled almost over into the right hand lane. Immediately pulled into a parking lot and called a towtruck, and towed it to a shop. Pictures from inspection performed by the shop are attached.

Inspection Agency found that the engine cradle was corroded to the point of near failure. Have been told that a replacement using a used chassis will cost over $1500. I have lived in New Jersey/Pennsylvania for all but 8 months I have owned this car since 2009. From reading about others with the same issue, it seems the engine cradles were not made to handle those winter conditions. Hopefully this will generate a recall since it seems like a common occurrence. I also had to have my front axle replaced about a year ago for a rusting issue that may have been due to the same material corrosion.
