CarComplaints.com Notes: The MAZDA6 was redesigned for the 2009 model year. Like any first-year product, it has a few growing pains – most notably a shiny, melting dashboard that can blind the driver.

Car hit a chuck hole virtually severing connection between the cradle/cross member and the right rear wheel. The same serious rusting problem that caused NHTSA to recall of front engine cradle on this model afflicts the rear cross member. Online search showed numerous 2009-2013 Mazda 6 owners looking for rear cross member and associated parts.

The right front subframe corrodes prematurely. This car has had rust protection sprays and has very little rust. While braking from about 30mph to 10mph I heard a loud crack. The steering wheel then started drifting and I ended up with the wheel turned 180 degrees just to keep going straight. I then jacked up the car and found I could wiggle the right front wheel from left to right. Each time I moved it there was a loud bang from the steering rack area. The car is now unusable.

2009 Mazda6 owners in the rust belt of the USA and Canada need to be made aware that their Mazda6 cars may not be safe to drive and that immediate inspection of the chassis is required. This accelerated corrosion is a design defect. An immediate safety recall is warranted.
