My wife and I have driven Standard transmission vehicles all our lives. We also both drive professionally. Our last car was a Mitsubishi Lancer 5 speed. We had 335,000 ks with original tranny and clutch. Our Mazda 5 has been a real disappointment, having the transmission going at 165,000. We phoned up the Local Mazda dealer and there were 3 new 6 speed transmissions in our area. I'm wondering if there might be a factory problem with the Mazda 5s clutch and 6 speed manual transmission. We are a little gun shy, for our after market extended warranty would only cover us for a used transmission..
