While driving on Route 202 north in Massachusetts near Belchertown the car suffered an electrical event, very extremely. The dash lit all warning lights red and orange. The wipers came on and could not be turned off. The doors locked, the windows were inoperable. I pulled over immediately and stopped the car. I put it in park. It would not release the park. I could not stop the warning lights, nor the wipers. Brakes worked. Steering worked.
I opened the car door manually and the I shut off the car. I tried to restart it 5 mins later but the numerous fault alarms persisted. I man pulled up behind me and offered help. He had wrenched and lifted the positive terminal battery cable for a minute. No effect. I took the car home and set up an appointment to go to a dealer. I went to the car a couple hours later and a message on the console said that the system updated. (Ostensibly without my permission, nor my knowledge) The car is ok now. I believe the car attempted to engage in communication via the satellite antenna and the update failed as I was driving nearly causing me to crash. Later it updated while it was parked. I hate that. I am buying a used pre-computer car non-satellite connected car.
