Since it happens randomly, usually in rain, humidity changes or early morning in cold weather... dealer said they don't see the problem. So, I'm living with a trunk release that sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. I have to use inside door release button about 15% of the time. Mazda corporate tells me there are no lodged complaints. It's obviously an issue with humidity or moisture. This car was manufactured in Mexico (not happy about that), where as the 2.0L engine Mazda 3s are produced in Japan. This might be why complaint is not showing.
