The trunk would start popping open randomly by itself every week or 2 when it had been sitting for a while. After multiple visits to the dealer and even contacting Mazda corporate and working with engineers higher up they could not determine why it was happening. The trunk has always been hard to latch-you had to practically slam it for it to close. I left it at the dealer for days at a time and it would never do it for them. They told me I could have been accidentally pressing the button on my key. One night after work I came out to my car in the parking lot with police around it because the trunk was open and they thought it had been broken into. I gave up and just stopped putting things in my trunk. It's now been over a year since then and now it is latching easier and not occurring very often.
