really awful
steering problem
Car has heavy steering and whining. I think the electrical power steering pump is kaput. This is a failure that should not happen to a car this early it its life. My last 04 Mazda 3s with 267k was still running on original parts. So it looks like QA went down the drain. This is definitely a disappointment since I assumed that Mazda only gets better, I was wrong and it seems that this will be the last Mazda I will ever buy.

I am very unhappy with the electric steering system of this vehicle. At low speeds (parking lot, driveway, coming out of a full stop and turning) the response in the steering wheel is absolutely horrible, it's too tight and the return is very jerky and not at all smooth. I have to tightly hold the wheel and control the return otherwise all passengers get whiplash. I should be able to turn the wheel at low speed with a couple of fingers, but this is definitely not the case with this car. I've been developing pain in my hands in the past few months and I believe it is a result of the steering mechanism.
