Just noticed this morning that the selector switch might have been disconnected. This morning first time needed hot air to defog my windshield since the car was purchased. Even when selected on MAX HOT AC/stayed ON and it was blasting super cold air.

Update from Aug 25, 2016: Talked to the service department. They were polite and said it might take from an hour to a few days to fix. By the way no free courtesy rental provided. Unlike KIA or Hyundai two other vehicles we own and the service we are gotting used to.

So I checked the heat exchanger/radiator, circulation was good. Dropped bottom and side cover panels and air duct on a passenger side. From there it was visible that the part responsible for the dumper switching action was disengaged from a slider guide. Once aligned and snapped in place it performed flawlessly ever since. To be quite honest having hard time believing that it popped out by itself. The quality of parts and fit is superior, tight and precise. Tried to pull it out to check if it was loose - not a chance. Appears as if someone was trying to mess with me by prying it out. The thing worked at the time of a purchase.

The whole fix took less than 15 minutes. The only tool required was a flash light and some manual dexterity.

Love my Mazda 3 Sport over Elantra GT. I own both and both are excellent budget cars but Mazda has much more edge over Elantra GT technologically in every aspect: Handling, Engine/Transmission performance, entertainment system, looks... and as far as I am concerned worth the extra penny. However when you take into account Hyundai's or KIA's after sales support, warranty, commitment - that is where Mazda pales - lots of room for improvement. But technologically Mazda is the best, nothing comes close. Just in case you were weighing those two.
