TSB Document:

Affected Component: EQUIPMENT:MECHANICAL

Summary
SOME VEHICLES MAY EXHIBIT A TAPPING NOISE FROM THE MANUAL TRANSAXLE WHEN THE CLUTCH IS ENGAGED IN ANY GEAR AFTER ENGINE START. THIS CONCERN MAY BE CAUSED BY THE REVERSE IDLER GEAR BEING DAMAGED UNDER THE FOLLOWING DRIVING CONDITION. IF THE WHEELS ARE SPINNING AT A HIGH SPEED IN REVERSE ON A FROZEN SURFACE AND THE GRIPPING FORCE IS RECOVERED FOR BOTH WHEELS AT THE SAME TIME ON A DRY SURFACE, THE IMPACT LOAD APPLIED TO THE TRANSAXLE COULD BE MOMENTARILY EXCESSIVE, CAUSING A TOOTH TO BREAK ON THE REVERSE IDLER GEAR. NOTE: IN THE WORST CASE, THE VEHICLE MAY NOT MOVE IN REVERSE GEAR. THE MATERIAL OF THE REVERSE IDLER GEAR HAS NOW BEEN CHANGED TO MEET THIS SORT OF DRIVING CONDITION.
