CarComplaints.com Notes: Except for a minor issue with cracked motor mounts, the 2008 MAZDA3 is a fantastic vehicle with a great reputation.
If you need to replace the motor mounts, first ask your dealer if they'll cover it -- the motor mounts were dealt with in a TSB & were recalled for some model years. Otherwise buy aftermarket motor mounts -- owners report this solves the problem. If you use the same OEM parts, they may just crack again.

ONE MONTH after the warranty expired, my engine developed a lower engine knock diagnosed at So Bay Mazda in Torrance, CA. They said; " sorry, the engine needs replacing (7,500.00) and since you have NOT been a loyal Mazda returning customer for service you'll have to pay for it yourself."
I have been the only driver and have been having it serviced by a local garage for convenience. Never has there ever been a warning icon to check engine. The Mazda service manager told me that I should have been checking the oil ONCE A WEEK????!! That's ridiculous, for a car with only 26,000 on it.
If you own a Mazda3 2.3 ....CHECK YOUR ENGINE OIL OFTEN AND DO NOT RELY ON DASH ICONS>
If you are considering a Mazda for a new purchase...I recommend looking at Hondas, Kias , Hyundais, Mitsubishis....ANYTHING BUT A MAZDA.
