CarComplaints.com Notes: Except for a minor issue with cracked motor mounts, the 2006 MAZDA3 is a fantastic vehicle with a great reputation.
If you need to replace the motor mounts, first ask your dealer if they'll cover it -- the motor mounts were dealt with in a TSB & were recalled for some model years. Otherwise buy aftermarket motor mounts -- owners report this solves the problem. If you use the same OEM parts, they may just crack again.

I have been driving a manual transmission for 25 years now, three cars (Toyota Corolla, Toyota Tacmoa and Mazda 3). I've had no issue with the clutches until the Mazda 3 2006 5 door manual transmission.
Main clutch went out on the Mazda 3 at ~ 36,000 a few months after the warranty lapsed. Replacement was $1500 at dealer. Now at 83,000 miles the 3rd gear started to pop out and I am now told that I need all the gear (3rd and 4th) replaced and other misc parts replaced. They are saying its normal wear and tear. Cost $2,400 (initial estimate $2,700, but they are doing me a favor as a good customer).
I've done all service on time with the dealer, and this kind of wear on a manual transmission does not seem right.
