Just wanted to add that the engine blew on my 2005 Mazda 3s Hatchback driving to work. I always maintained this vehicle, as I really loved it (I still miss it). Out of nowhere huge bang, the engine blew, 70mph on a busy morning rush hour commute in Northern Jersey in the left lane surprised there wasn't a huge pileup. Rod came right through the engine block. Mechanics could not figure why or what caused it, just that Mazda (many Japanese vehicles also) apparently uses lower quality materials, that when they are done...well I found out what happens.
I replaced it with a 2010 2.5s, so I am hoping not to have the same problem, although not as keen on this one as the original so don't think I will have it all that long.
