When the gear shift is bumped it can go from Drive to Neutral by accident and without the driver's knowledge. I would assume this button needs to be depressed to change gears but on this car it will go from Drive to Neutral without depressing this side button.

Dear NHTSA, I am writing to formally raise a safety concern regarding my Mazda CX-90 Turbo S Premium Plus, which I purchased and currently have approximately 25,078 miles on. This vehicle is equipped with a mild hybrid 48V battery, which is not a full high-voltage battery. The vehicle has been at the dealer since December 9th for ongoing issues. On [XXX], I began experiencing multiple malfunctions, including the Mild Hybrid System Malfunction, Engine Malfunction, and iStop Malfunction (with the iStop malfunction indicator blinking). This is a serious safety concern. I was extremely worried that the vehicle could stall, especially while driving on a busy highway at high speeds. Both myself and my family felt fearful while driving the car. I believe this issue presents a significant risk to the safety of drivers and passengers. I am requesting your assistance in initiating an official recall from the manufacturer for this component failure. Based on my research, I am not the only one experiencing these issues-?"many others have reported similar problems on forums like Reddit, which suggests that this could be a widespread issue. Additionally, Mazda offers a 6-year/60,000-mile warranty on this hybrid battery. If the component fails after this period, the cost to replace it could reach $6,000, with the customer being responsible for a large portion of the expense. This is concerning, especially considering that if this part fails after 30,000 miles, the customer may be expected to bear up to 70% of the cost. It is frustrating to see such issues with a vehicle sold in the U.S., and I feel that companies should be held accountable for offering subpar products. For comparison, BMW offers a 100,000-mile warranty on similar components. I hope you will take immediate action to address this issue and help ensure that affected vehicles are recalled for repair or replacement. Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter. While driving (less than 2000 miles on the OD) in our 2024 cx90 SE the vehicle started to shift out of timing and everything shut off at once. The vehicle lost all power and all parts shut down. The vehicle would start back up and power steering went out. Our driving speed was at 30mph so it was extremely scary during rush hour traffic. We had to have it towed to the dealership, we're not sure what the issue will be.

On my way to drop kid to school all of a sudden the car gave up power and shuddered with engine malfunction and I-drive malfunction warning. Check engine light came on. This is risky because another vehicle could have smashed into us if on highway or high speed. Research shows that a whole lot of people have this identical issue.

Stopped at a red light on a busy 2-lane road. I-stop function turned the engine off. When the light turned green, releasing the brake caused a "Hybrid Battery Malfunction" error and the engine failed to start. We put the transmission in park and attempted to turn off and turn on the car with the push to start button. When we attempted to start the car with the push to start button, the car would not start. We were unable to shift into neutral to move the car out of the busy 2-lane highway and were blocking traffic for about an hour. The first tow truck to arrive was unable to move the car onto the flat-bed because the transmission was stuck in park and would not go into neutral so another tow truck was dispatched with a dolly. Our safety was at risk because we were stuck in an immobile car in busy highway traffic. A police officer arrived to help direct traffic around our disabled car. The vehicle is currently at the dealership and has not been inspected as of the time of this report.

I was driving in EV mode and was behind another vehicle waiting to turn out of a plaza. The exit is on a slope which is important to mention. The car in front of me began to turn and as I was releasing the brake to move up the hill, the car engine kicked on, the RPM-??s went up extremely high as if the accelerator was being pressed all the way to the floor, the car jolted forward on its own and hit the car in front of me. I kept trying to brake, but the car continued to accelerate on its own into the car in front of me a second time. I understand that when on a slope driving in EV mode, the cars engine will kick in to allow the car enough momentum to make it up the hill. However, in this case, the engine kicked in, but the momentum was extreme to the point that when I released the brake to roll forward the car shot forward so fast there was no avoiding a collision. This is extremely faulty and unsafe! My child and I suffered injuries as a result of striking the other car twice. We-??re lucky we were not hit by multiple other cars as we were propelled into the intersection. I-??m terrified to drive this car with my children. I contacted the dealership that instructed me to have the collision repairs completed first and then they would check out the car out.

Driving up snowy pass on I-90 approaching the top of Snoqualmie Pass. Vehicle stalled and warning lights flashed critical warning and loss of power. The vehicle stopped in the middle of the highway and would not start or go into drive. After a few minutes, because of speeding and adverse conditions, another driver collided with my vehicle from behind. Another following vehicle lost control and ran off the road. Nobody was injured. Mazda has not provided any information to what happened with the vehicle. We added about 12k miles in the 5 months of driving it, so we had lots of testing with it, and never ran into this serious of an issue with this or any other vehicle.

At 3200 miles the vehicle had a major powertrain malfunction causing the vehicle to throw multiple error codes - Hybrid System Malfunction; Charging System Malfunction; Electrical Leakage Detected. Was instructed to pull over to a safe area immediately. Was unclear how long car would continue to be drivable. Once car stopped it became completely immobile. Repeated restart attempts would not let vehicle start ICE engine or shift into gear. Had to be towed via dollies to nearest dealer for diagnosis and repair. Dealer found a failed PTC heater unit as source of problem and replaced it (Mazda part- KMV6-61-FHX). Vehicle is once again drivable, but the dealer has no idea what would cause the unit to fail and how to avoid future problems. Dealer has heard about this with many vehicles and repaired several similarly. We are fortunate to have found a safe place to pull off the road before powertrain shutdown, but if not we would have been stuck on the road with no ability to move the vehicle and occupants to safety. I hope NHTSA can investigate whether a recall of that part or the software that controls it is needed. NHTSA should also look into the failure mode of the vehicle to see if a different approach is safer and more appropriate.

La SUV Mazda CX90 phev hibrida SE compro en julio de 2023, ES totalmente nueva. Queremos poner en evidencia el alto riesgo que padecemos con el vehiculo, entre [xxx] mi mujer Y yo ibamos en el automovil Y de repente SE freno por completo en medio de un puente que ES muy transitado Y causo una preocupacion Y mucho miedo porque no lo esperabamos Y afortunadamente no paso nada por que ibamos despacio exactamente 25 millas por hora Y porque el carro que venia atras de nosotros giro a la izquierda justo antes de nosotros perder el control del automovil que SE freno solo sin justificacion alguna no obstante adelante de nosotros no habia nigun automovil para que el automovil SE detuviera. Nota: Mi mujer SE encuentra en estado de embarazo Y no SE siente confiada en el automovil, tiene mucho miedo a la hora de usarlo. El problema ES aun mas grande porque dias antes del incidente el concesionario realizo un servicio de cambio de aceite Y servicio por un recall por los sensores del vehiculo, de lo cual solo hicieron cambio del aceite. Adicionalmente a esta informacion el vehiculo posee varios recall que no han sido solucionados por el concesionario, tenemos pruebas de los varios problemas que viene presentando el vehiculo. Adicionalmente hemos venido presentando dificultades con el servicio prestado en el concesionario de Mazda de lodi NJ codigo postal 07644, no han tenido voluntad en solucionar nuestro problema, hicimos la respectiva queja ante Mazda matriz Y solo nos dieron la opcion de llevar el vehiculo a revision, el cual fue revisado hoy [xxx] Y SE tardaron solo 1 hora para analizarlo Y decir que no tiene problemas el vehiculo. The vehicle's parking "gear" would not engage. Further, the emergency brake would not engage. Puts all in proximity to the vehicle at risk due to the vehicle rolling into or onto them and damaging personal property. Dealership service department could not recreate the the parking "gear" issue, but were able to recreate the emergency brake not engaging. Vehicle has been inspected by Macdonald Mazda West representatives.

Turning left at intersection at green light, the oncoming traffic sped up and I needed to floor it to not get hit. The my car switch to hybrid and went into a crawl pace. I had to floor it again to wake it up and get the heck out of the way. I don't think the computer is doing a good job talking to the hybrid system and the powertrain during emergency maneuvering. This can be dangerous. I know it scared the hell out me.

On 12/5/2023, upon turn after intersection, loss of power to the engine. Pushing gas provided no response from the engine. Engine power cut to about 10 miles an hour. Felt as the car was driving on battery - as no engine was heard. Was able to pull over to the side. Turned off and on engine 2-3 times but the power wasn't restored. Received warning on dashboard that there is malfunction with engine. Also received errors on Mazda application I had on phone. Engine light was on the dashboard. Photos attached. While obtaining assistance for tow service I was accidentally disconnected. I tried turning the car on again, and engine turned on normally. Total time between last unsuccessful turning on/off engine was about 10-15 minutes. First time experience such issue with loss of power and engine cutting off/ not working. Informed the car dealership and car repair/ check was scheduled to be brought to dealership for 12/8/2023. Estimated repairs taking 4 to 5 days before I can get the car back. Distance to dealership about 150 miles. Confidence in this car severely shaken - considering the price and the fact it is brand new.

I use car washes that require you to put the car in neutral and the car wash has a device that pulls the car through. Upon exit, you are supposed to put the car into drive and drive away. But unfortunately the car will not go into drive. An error message pops up that tells me I can-??t go into drive. I then have to quickly hit the brake, put the car in park, and then into drive so I can pull away. This is dangerous if there is a car behind you in the car wash because you have almost no time to react. This has happened at least 5 times, and next time I-??ll have the camera ready to capture the message that comes up. It seems as though the car only allows you to move forward in neutral for a certain amount of time or distance before it has the error.
