Premature Brake Wear
2010 Mazda CX-9
This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Mazda dealer.
CarComplaints.com Notes: The only area of real concern for 2010 Mazda CX-9 owners is the brake booster.
In 2014, Mazda extended the warranty on the 2007-2013 CX-9 brake booster to 7 years / 90,000 miles. However this extended warranty has expired, so buyer beware.
This Mazda CX-9 brake booster failure isn't terrible in terms of repair cost — it "only" costs $550 average to fix. However it is a safety issue when the brake booster fails as it increases stopping distance. Owners have reported having to stomp on the brake pedal, & crashes/injuries have been reported due to this CX-9 brake booster defect.

2010 Model year CX9 at about 30,000 miles the feel of my brakes changed. They were very noisy, and I thought I needed maybe pads. I had never experienced this with brakes with any other car. Took it in, told pads only half worn, don't need pads. I was surprised. Felt like I needed more pressure to stop and they felt rough.
At 50,000 I had the pads done and the rotors were resurfaced. Noise stopped for a while. At about 75,000 miles I had an accident where under low speed, the traffic backed up quickly due to debris in the road, and I rear ended someone. It happened fast, but I felt like I had applied the pedal but car did not respond - but it was split second.
That was August 17, 2013, car was not returned to me until late September. It is now February 2015, 85,000 miles and car started making A LOT of noise when braking, awful. Noise did not stop, but diminished in volume when foot off brake. Dealer tells me I need whole brake job, pads and rotors AND CALIPERS. That the calipers are frozen and not operating, so the pad is constantly in contact with the rotor. I did the full 75,000 mile dealer service, which should have included brake fluid flush. $2100 repair.
I am not questioning the need for another set of pads or even the rotors, I know they can only be resurfaced 1x. I know the car is heavy, and I do not do highway driving. But now I am unsure if the car reacted correctly during that accident. And I am not sure if the calipers should be failing. I never experienced a hissing noise as other drivers have noted.
