Covered 1170 Miles in new Mazda CX-5 Diesel automatic, had made a long trip the previous day and engine had cooled overnight, started engine up cold to 3 cylinders only and the heaviest banging sounds coming from the drivers side of the engine. So bad I had the car uplifted to the Garage we purchased it from. Despite it being put on the computer it showed up no faults which was no surprise as it was mechanical not electronic.
So far have had this banging take place on 4 occasions all of which were captured on smartphone video, of the 11 cold starts 4 are with heavy rattle rest are okay, Mazda UK are dragging their feet over dealing with this issue despite being given all the video captures showing varying startup noise.
So far we have had Injector tests and compression tests which were showing no faults which to me was no surprise the latest offering was to have the sump removed and photographs taken, to what end other than to prove the crankshaft and con-rod big ends are all in place other than that complete waste of time. Oil changed with the result the banging appears to be getting worse.
Other than the engine blowing up I fail to see exactly what Mazda as a company are doing to alleviate this fault other than to completely make me fed up with the car and the company.by stating that under some circumstances piston slap may occur on cold starts, if this continues there will be a complete failure of this engine
