My round trip work commute is 84 miles a day on an interstate. The interstate is nicely paved. So having the wear and tear on this vehicle is odd to me. Yes that is more miles then most drive however it is not a difficult drive.
I noticed the overly loud road noise/grinding noise and asked my small town auto shop about it. No idea. My husband asked about the calipers: again, they were clueless.
Having now replaced the rear rotors x1 and brake pads x3 in the last 15 months and finally took it to the dealer after the second set of brake pads and again specifically asked about the calipers, where they said no it's the rear bearings and replaced those.... That did help with the noise some but I could tell it still was not right. I do not live near the dealership, it is 1 1/2 hours away, so going back there is pointless given the time it will take.
I recently switched to a different auto shop in my small town and that mechanic identified the issue as the rear drivers side caliper which won't release. The day he identified it there were 3 other Mazda CX 5's getting new brakes.
I will never buy a Mazda again since they have to know of this issue given what I have seen now in my internet research AND from other Mazda owners in my town.
Mazda needs to own the issue and do a recall. it is that simple.
