Loss of power has happened twice. First time in June, 2018 on an expressway driven by a friend, going 60-65mph. It absolutely terrified her. She managed to get safely off the road. She took it to our Mazda dealer where mechanic did all the computer checks and said computer needed to be refreshed. Second time happened today, 9/15/18. On expressway, accelerated suddenly to avoid another car. All lights went on, total loss of power. LUCKILY, I was able to get to the side of the road. Turned off car. When restarted none of the lights went on and it started normally. Kept driving. Stopped and started a number of times with no further problem.

I was about to go to the store when my check engine and battery lights came on and the car lost power. Luckily I wasn't driving fast and there was a space on the side of the road to park. I turned off the engine and turned it on after a couple of minutes. The car started and I went on my way. After a few blocks it lost power again and I stopped in the middle of the street. I turned the car off and on again and just decided to go back home. I used an obd2 to get the code and it states P0172- MAF sensor. I cleaned it just to make sure it wasn't dirty and I drove it around the block. Still did the same. I can't imagine this is happening to my Mazda. I've been reading various forums and it's not the first time this happened. I hope Mazda will fix this issue because it could cause a nasty accident.

Drove my 2014 CX 5 to the Mazda dealership for the 3 year / 45000 km service on April 24.17. - Recovered the vehicle and drove about 6 minutes to the next Interstate. - Accelerated to about 75 M/H to fit into the fairly heavy traffic. After about 200 yards, all of a sudden all dash lights came on and or blinked, the transmission shifted to N and the vehicle didn't want to advance anymore. - With a slight shutter / vibrations coming from the PT, I rolled to the right onto the safety strip, where I stopped. - The engine was now running at LI and all the dash lights were on and or blinking, including of course the master fault indicator. - Since this was the second time I experienced this same issue this year, I knew I had to shut down the engine and had to wait about 2 minutes, before re-starting the engine again. (First incident January 2.17) - No problem to re-start the engine and all seemed back to normal and I drove the vehicle back to the Mazda dealership, where the servicemen noticed that this incident had been recorded by the board computer again. - In my opinion this is a safety issue, since depending on the situation on an Interstate, the risk is high to get either run over or to get "rear ended" violently. - I still don't know for sure if Mazda is aware of this problem, but have noticed that other Mazda CX5 owners had the same / similar problems. - The hopes are up, Mazda will find a solution to this problem soon! Thanks and best!
