My car is at a complete stop, when it suddenly revs up and then a big clunk sound as well as lunching forward. It sounds and feels like I was rear-ended. This has happened a couple of times. I have read many times that people take their car in to figure out the cause, only to be told their is nothing wrong with the car. I figure it out on my own. The gas pedal and the brake are too close to each other, and when you think your foot is on the brake pedal, it is also still slightly touching the gas pedal, which causes the engine to Rev yet you have the brake on as well. Suddenly the car lurches trying to go but the brake stops it from moving.
I've caught myself several when I heard my engine begin to rev at a stop. I quickly adjust my foot and make sure its all on the brake pedal and not touching the gas pedal, and it stops revving. You know how we pretty much rest the heal of our foot in between the Gas pedal and brake pedal so we can just pivot our foot from one pedal to the other, only problem is that part of your foot might still be on the gas as well as the brake pedal. So there is nothing wrong with the car, the pedals are just too close and too sensitive.
