Mazda is aware of this issue. It’s a well documented complaint. It’s on two different models.

They have issued a technical service bulletin but haven’t done a recall.

They should recall it. It’s obviously a defective switch.

I’m very disappointing because I just bought this used vehicle yesterday. And our family owns three Mazda’s. It most likely happened during the warranty. But wasn’t addressed. So now I’ll be stuck paying to fix it.

It was surprising that this never happened at the dealer and we cut the car on and off several times.

But after arriving home we could not get the car to shut off. When we would push the ignition button the car engine would power down but the auxiliary power would stay on. Then the radio I come back on. You can’t lock the car or anything if I leave the vehicle the battery will run down.

So I went to look it up online to see if there was a fix and of course then I see all the complaints. People have voiced frustration over this. Most say the fix is toggling the gearshift, others moving the car out of park and into reverse and back into park to try to make the car shut off.

Since Mazda won’t recall it perhaps a class action lawsuit is in order. I’m very unhappy about this. I called Mazda this morning and there’s three open recalls on this vehicle but they act all dumb pretending to know nothing about this problem. Yet I go to their website and see it’s in a service bulletin. I will be going in for recall service soon and I’ll see how Mazda decides to handle this.

When the engine is stopped, the radio stays on. By driving it a few feet forward and backward it will eventually turn off.

Very frustrating and agree with others that this is a safety issue and needs a recall. Sounds like many other CX-5 owners have this issue. I am afraid I will get stuck somewhere and not be able to turn off my car! Was at the mall yesterday and spend 5 minutes trying to turn it off. Have an appointment with my mechanic on Thursday. The Mazda dealer didn't have a clue and wanted to charge me $150 to diagnosis since there was not recall. My mechanic said it could be a switch or the alternator continuing to run. Curious to see if it gets fixed
