2013 CX5 was purchased in April 2012 and was likely one of the early ones sold in our area. Right Rear Caliper was not releasing and the rim and brake assembly were smoking. Three year warranty had expired five months earlier. Two months later, the Left Rear Caliper is smoking hot... there is no aftermarket caliper and the dealer-only part is quite expensive $380.00CAD(?). VERY FRUSTRATING.

Started hearing metallic squeaking and scraping from the rear. Looked online and found TSB 04-005/15. I thought I found the problem and it should get fixed under warranty. Took the car to the Mazda dealer last Friday and they found "3141 FOUND ALL ROTORS AND PADS HEAT SCORCHED AND GLAZED. SUGGESTED FRONT AND REAR ROTOR RESURFACE, PAD BUFF, AND HARDWARE LUBRICATION. CUSTOMER DECLINED ALL RECOMMEND WORK AT THIS TIME." I even printed out the TSB so the techs would know what to look for and the service manager told me to take it with me and that they already have everything they need.... The total estimate for the repairs was $588. They said it's not covered under warranty. I am new to this area and have little confidence in this Mazda dealer. It cost $63 for them to investigate the problem. They put it all back together and I still have the noise.

Thinking about looking for another opinion. This car is only three years old and should not make noises like this. I'm also concerned that there is a safety issue with the brakes although the Mazda dealer told me there was still 60% life on the brake pads.

I can't believe I heard grinding coming from the rear of this vehicle. I take it in for service and find out rear brake on driver side is metal to metal, it was the last thing I expected at only 39000 miles. Very disappointed to have any problems with a car with so few miles. This is my first and probably last Mazda. My last 3 cars were Toyota's and they never seen service this early for anything but oil changes.

I started hearing a metal grinding sound on the rear driver side of my Mazda CX5 with 28,000. I was told the rotors and pads were gone and needed to be replaced. I drive all highways to and from work. The parts were not available and I was driving on used pads for about 1 month and they started to make the same grinding sound. When they got the parts and they replaced it for $405 I was told the emergency brake was on 1 notch. I have not been able to repeat the emergency brake issue without the light going on. If that was the problem why didn't they find that issue when the used pads were put on. I am now worried that there is a issue with the emergency brakes if they are telling me the truth.
