2.5 year old cars should not have a major system fail because of a design flaw. Mazda knows the compressor is too close to the ground and unprotected. In fact, Mazda has an MSP out on it. (Mazda Service Program) That's gutless; if you bring the car in UNDER WARRANTY, they'll fix it, but if you are a thousand miles over, pay the $800. I'm pretty much done with Mazda, and am going to let everybody I can find know it too.

I went to the dealer on 8/23/18 and they wanted an arm and a leg saying I needed a new condenser. Turned out it only need freon. (works fine). Many people with the same car have the same problem. Not sure if this is going to be a recall problem soon.
