I own a 1995 Mazda 626 and the transmission is about to break. It has 120,000 miles on it, I know its a lot but still the transmissions in my other cars lasted to almost 200,000 miles. Mazda should be held responsible for this design defect and I should not. I heard of other owners having the exact same problem. Something needs to be done and right now!
Please look into this. Just search Mazda 626 transmission from any search engine. You will find hundreds of complaints. Mazda needs to do the right thing. They sold a defective product. They know it. And, they will not take responsibility for their defective transmissions.
Consumer states that while driving the over drive light came on, vehicle was shifiting hard, and when it goes into fourth gear their will be a griding noise. The transmission had blown. Had transmission replace. Problem reaccured.
Transmission rebuilt 3 times due to overheating and torque converter failure. This is a well-known problem at transmission rebuild shops for the cd4E transmission built by Ford.
This seems to be a common and reoccuring problem with this vehicle. What are you doing to hold Mazda accountable for this problem and give consumers a fighting chance? thanks, milton arias

Now again I am starting to have transmission problems again. This time I was told that I needed to get a new transmission. I have read that many people have had the same type of problems with their 626. It seems to be a defect. Along with the transmission problem their also seems to be a problem with the oxygen sensor I have had to replace 2 already. I think this car is a major piece of junk and should be taken off the market.

For the last fives years, the O/D light has been constantly flashing. Sometimes the O/D light would go off after a few days to a week, and at other times when we have taken the vehicle to the Mazda dealer. Whenever the O/D light is flashing the vehicle begins to jerk hard when in reverse, on startup or when the vehicle shifts into a low gear. There have been many instances where the vehicle is unable to maintain idle on startup or while in drive. The only solution is to ride the brakes and gas until itS able to maintain idle. So far I have had the transmission rebuilt once by Mazda via ammco and the airflow sensor replaced twice by Mazda. Upon having the second airflow sensor replaced, I was told by Mazda that the transmission is fried and needs to be fixed a second time. After taking the vehicle back to ammco (still under the warranty from the first rebuilding) they said all that the transmission needed was celluloid. After about a week of the vehicle running quite well, the O/D light is back on flashing and the vehicle is back to its jerking ways.
Od loght (over/drive off) light flashes, and car shifts very rough. Previous complaint on bulletin boards indicate transmision failure, estimated repairs 2K to 3K dollars. Nlm
The transmission is a poor product. After the first failure I have returned 6 previous times to get it repaired again. Ford/Mazda should stand by their poor workmanship and there should be a recall. This is not an isolated incident.
