We bought the car from a "buy here, pay here" with a 90 day drive train warranty in November 2015. The car seemed to be ok, it felt a little rough. My first thought was that the idle was set a bit too high, but it drove fine. We took it in for inspection oil change etc. In June of 2016 and almost immediately (a week or so) after that, while on the highway, the check engine light came on. The car started jerking and losing power, the check engine light then began flashing. Pulled over and had it towed to the dealer.
They said we needed a new PCM and 6 coils and plugs. They said it was a common problem with my car but there are no recalls for it. They quoted us est. $2424.89 plus tax. We ended up getting a tow home where it has been sitting. Meanwhile, we are still making our car payments. It's a real pisser! My husband has since pulled the coils and one of them had a melted casing, all of the spark plugs were fried and one had some orange colored matter on the end of it.
Update from Jul 12, 2017: Update: in march '17, we sent the pcm out for repairs, had it and coils, plugs replaced through a local shop. The car was running fine until today, Wednesday, July 12. the check engine light is on again. We will be taking it back in tomorrow, I hope it's nothing serious!
