This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
*driving in heavy traffic on I-680 in omaha. Below freezing temps. *intake manifold failed...resulting in sprying coolent on windshilds of vehicals *behind me and a large cloud of steam. Resulting in panic braking and close calls. *taken to dealer for part replacement. *recalls for this same part are on the Ford Crown Victoria's and limo's including Lincoln limo. Not on Lincoln sedans or the Mercury with same problem. * I was very lucky that this did not happen just 2 week prior, where I had my family in the car traveling in S. Dakota at -25 degree temps late in the evening.
Driving from a surface street onto a major arterial, a 1997 Lincoln towncar original plastic intake manifold cracked, spewing coolant and engine oil from motor, when the vehicle accelerated to and attained 55 mph. Motor requires replacement. If Ford has a better idea, I sure wish they'd share it with their customers. I feel lucky to have steered from the major arterial upon which I was driving, without any additional negative consequence to myself or another person or vehicle. It is not a fun experience to have your engine blow at 55 miles an hour! fomoco should have a major recall to repair this item before more persons and property are imperiled.
While in motion, the palstic intake manifold suffered a fatigue crack. There are three recall programs and a seven year extended warranty issued but none covered this vehicle. Consumer requests reimbursement for monies paid for repairs to this vehicle and that this vehicle be added under the recall program.
