I had just purchased this Lincoln used. I had driven it home and put it in my driveway. My daughter started it once and it revved loudly and I wondered why she was stepping on the gas, but she wasn't. I didn't think much of it as I was able to drive it into the garage without a problem. A few days later I went to drive it to work with my daughter sitting in the front seat. As soon as I put it into reverse it flew out of the garage without me pushing on the gas pedal. The brakes didn't do a thing. Not wanting to crash across the street I put it into drive and continued to press on the brakes. It wouldn't slow down, and I crashed into the back of my garage causing substantial damage to my home and the Navigator. Fortunately, we were not injured (my daughter was traumatized though).
I understand that Lincoln didn't put in an override for the brakes to work when the throttle goes crazy until 2012 or so. We called Lincoln and they said that they never heard of such an issue like I had, but we found a class action lawsuit that was attempted against Lincoln because of the same problem, and we read of other people having their Navigators go berserk on them (with the throttle going full bore without the pedal being pressed and the brakes not working to stop the vehicle). It is disappointing that the manufacturer wouldn't admit to the problem.
I sold the Navigator at a very steep discount to someone else who rebuilt the front end (I told him the problem so he could be aware). My house insurance paid for the damage to the home (that was quite expensive), but my insurance went up the next year.
