This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The torque converter in my car has started to shutter and leak fluid. I took it to the dealer and another local garage. They said this was a common problem on this type of vehicle and but there had been no recalls made for this problem. The local garage also told me there was a new type of selenoid and valves to go into the transmission to keep the problem from happening again. I checked out the technical service bulletin and there was one for this problem (tsb# 98-8-7 April 1998). Why has there been no recall effort if this is a common problem when a transmission failure at high speeds could be dangerous?
