At 70 mph, on cruise or not, car drifts left, then with least possible correction, drifts right. This repeats steadily, so I have to correct every 4 seconds. Left, then right, then left, then right, and so on. The "feel" is too heavy. I have never had this problem with any other car, and I have driven very many in my long life!
The dealer has checked steering is in spec, and driven twice, but on local roads, in San Diego, there is not a suitable condition for him to get a perception of the problem. This happens on flat, smooth roads.
My reading of the problem is that there is enough friction in the steering mechanism, such that one cannot make small enough corrections to enable following a straight course. Technically, in servo language, the problem is that the dead band is large, so the dead band torque has to be overcome to make each correction. Dealer tech needs help.
Attempts to reach a tech in Ford or Lincoln are a total frustration
