Purchased a 2012 MKZ from a Lincoln dealer 2014, used CPO. Car has run well minor stuff and I don't run it a lot. About mid 2021 my wife says the heater smells. Look underneath, nothing, smells like road kill or propane. In for inspection and oil change, they change the cabin air filter. Still smells more looking underneath, nothing. Now a small dark maybe oil or grease in the driveway. Back to dealer, thinks it is the cabin air filter again. 2024 inspection and oil change, tells me the AWD transfer case is leaking fluid. Ford no longer makes the case. He could get me one from a junkyard, no guarantee and has 88k miles on it about 2700 dollars installed.
Went on the internet, full of info about this poorly designed case that has no drain. Sits too close to exhaust etc. and cooks the lubricant. Called the Lincoln complaint hotline, they never heard of this. Asked for the number of their manager, sorry no phone number available
A Lincoln CPO that the dealer that sold it to me in 2014 most likely knew there was a problem with the AWD transfer case grinding to a halt. No recall no extended warranty just a flunkie on the phone that never heard of the problem and probably rides a bicycle
