If I had known that the Water Pump was inside the engine compartment I wouldn't have bought the car.
The car just stopped (my wife just returned from a trip an it happened as she pulled into the driveway) but it did restart, so my wife pulled into the garage. When I got home, there was water/anti-freeze all over the garage.
We had it towed to our garage mechanic and when he checked it out, he said it had water in the engine oil. He wouldn't touch it and to have it towed to a Lincoln dealership. we were given two options: replace the engine - $8000. or replace the water pimp for $3300. They couldn't guarantee the second option because they said with water getting into the engine compartment the bearings could be damaged. They would do 4 - 5 oil changes to make all the water was out of the engine. We have it back for 3 days and it seems alright.
The dealer service person said you are to stop the engine when you see a leak at the bottom of the engine. In the summer, how often would you check with water dripping from your A/C. If the car hadn't stop in the driveway there was know of knowing there was a leak.
