Subsequent to my purchase of Lincoln MKC in March, 2018, I have experienced numerous malfunctions with the Front Park Aid (FPA) feature. The FPA activates at totally unpredictable times and under unpredictable conditions, except that the malfunction always occurs when there is NO obstruction in front of the vehicle as described in the user handbook.
I have made several contacts with Lincoln concierge personnel resulting in two returns to KORUN Lincoln dealership for corrective action. The first return covering dates of 6/07/18 to 6/21/18 failed to identify an FPA problem. The second return covering dates of10/30/18 to11/13/18 again failed to identify an FPA problem. I received a Service Advisor report concerning this second visit containing the following statement: "NOTE IT IS NORMAL FOR IT TO GO OFF UNDER SPEEDS OF 7 MPH PER OWNERS MANUAL. SEE PRINT OUT OF WHAT MAY CAUSE THIS'. The only "print out" available to me is the owners manual which deals with the FPA on pages 198 and 199. information contained thereon specifically states that the FPA has a coverage area of up to 28 inches from the front bumper. The coverage area decreases at the outer corners.
I have found this to be true when I approach a significant object. The condition which concerns, and quite honestly, frightens me and my wife is the times the FPA activates and there is NO OBSTRUCTION near us. No cars, trucks, carts, pedestrians, animals, structures, or anything that should activate the FPA. The alarm sounds thru it's complete cycle. Probably the most significant example of this malfunction occurred on 13 Aug 2018 when the FPA gave three false alarms within approximately one hour.
I must stress that this is a disturbing situation, to the extent that my wife is afraid to drive the car. As of this date, Nov 24, 2018 , I am waiting for contact from KORUM Automotive and Lincoln concierge as to what happens next
