While driving home from work (Canton MI)in my 2015 MKC down a busy highway (I 275) in metro Detroit, my power steering completely went out and I was left with the fear of how can I manage to get home. It took both hands and all my strength to drive the vehicle. First thoughts were as long as I'm going North and only have to turn twice to get home I think I can make it. Took the vehicle into Dealer next day (vehicle is a lease with 13K miles on it. Dealer had it for a couple of days and replaced PCM (Power Control Module) and from June 2016 on, I did not have any issues. Then at random, while leaving my work parking lot on Oct 24th, the steering froze up again went into manual steering and I had to glide the car into another lot; thankfully had not reached I 275 again, so shut the car off waited for 5 minutes, restarted and was able to drive home. Called dealer and explained if I was an 85 year old or teenager talking on a cell phone and not paying attention it would have led to a crash. They are taking the vehicle back in and honestly probably not sure what cause the Ford electronics steering system to fail. All I can say is that I am glad I am a strong individual and able to control the vehicle.
We are in the 21st century and I would have higher hopes that a consumer would not be paying $40K for a vehicle that looses steering at any given moment; no alarms or whistles just randomly looses power steering. Not happy with my MKC.
