Whenever there is a pothole or bumps in the road, there is a clunking noise in the suspension. I was the told the ball joints needed replacing and an alignment needed. This was done but the problem remains. This is on a 2000 Lincoln Ls. The problem first occurred at around 50,000 miles. The ball joints and alignment were done at around 190,000 miles with no difference in the condition.

The mechanic determined that it was the bolts in the suspension which were not tightened properl, causing the ball joints wear out. This will be repaired at contact's expense. There was NHTSA recall 00V35900. He contacted the manufacturer, and was told this vehicle was not included due to VIN.

The vehicle had to have ball joints tightened, then the other side had to be replaced because it was cracked. There was a loss of steering every time the vehicle was driven around curves.
