The solenoid that releases the shifter when the brake is applied failed. It happened when I was sitting in a traffic jam, so it prevented me from moving once the jam cleared...a very dangerous situation. Dealer had to replace the entire shifter mechanism to the tune of $1200...not just the little solenoid. Why do Ford products all seem to come as an "integrated" assembly where you replace half the car for a minor component failure?
