On October 28, 2016 I was making a right turn into a parking spot in our community. I had braked to guide the vehicle into the parking spot. Suddenly the engine made a loud noise as it revved up and then shot forward over the curb. I narrowly missed hitting a lamp post but did hit one tree before I could get the vehicle under control. No one was injured although the car did hit a parked golf cart and a vehicle on the other side of the island as it came to a complete stop. Our vehicle was then towed to the local body shop our insurance recommended. Two weeks later, after we had contacted Toyota, the black box was read. We have recently received a letter from Toyota indicating nothing was found to be wrong with the braking or acceleration of the vehicle. There was no mention of a possible electronic issue which we suspect could have caused the surge. I am grateful no one was injured however I refuse to drive this vehicle again until it is determined what happened and a correction made. My husband had previously reported to our mechanic that he felt the car had accelerated slightly when the brakes were applied but the mechanic could not replicate the situation. I now have a car I cannot drive or sell and I am very frustrated. To have a nearly perfect driving record and excellent insurance rates damaged by this incident just adds insult to this whole situation.
