Defective steering column from Lexus on a vehicle with less than 85,000 kms (52,000 miles) is totally unacceptable especially from a reputable company such as Lexus. The rattling noise is clear and annoying when the vehicle is driven on uneven or repaired road at a speed of around 60 km/h which is a common speed limit for most roads. To repair this issue, the steering column should be replaced out of customer's pocket which is not right. This is a manufacturing defect that affects the security and safety of a vehicle which could lead to a loss of steering and puts Lexus drivers and their families at huge risk.

I strongly believe that this common problem should be corrected by Lexus as a safety recall. It is the Lexus responsibility to correct this safety and security issue, as it is a manufacturing defect, under a service bulletin with no time limit.

Update from Jun 20, 2024: The problem was not a power steering or anything to do with steering. The rear left spring was cracked and the ringing noise was radiating to the front end. It was very hard to find as the crack was visually un-detectable. We ended up replacing both rear springs with used OEM, and the problem disappeared.
