I was driving home on city roads and was about a 1/4 mile from home when the oil pressure warning went off on the panel. I had not hit anything, so wasn't sure what caused it. Reached home without any issues, but when I checked the dipstick the next day, the liquid level did not register. I put it aside for a week, then tried refilling (checking the dipstick ever so often), but it only registered on the dipstick when I had put in 5+ quarts, which implied it had no oil at all. When I checked the oil an hour later, almost all of it had drained out through the undercarriage and it was almost dry again.
After researching on the web, it appears to be the VVTI oil supply hose issue which other Lexus users have complained about. I'm really disappointed that Lexus knew that using a rubber hose for returning hot oil under pressure was a failure waiting to happen but did not notify me. They have recalls for Lexus RX's, but did not notify me of the issue. Instead of an inconvenience (scheduling a service for a recall), it has not become a big issue. I have to tow the vehicle to a dealer and not sure if the corporation will pay for a defect they knew about all along. I have passed the 10 year period, but not the 150K limit. I expected more from Lexus - and I will not consider them in the future unless they fix this the right way for me.
