cracking, melting dashboard cracking, melting dashboard

I am a proud Lexus owner of over 10 years. I currently own a 2006 RX 330 which I have owned since 2007. I have 136K miles on my vehicle and it has been an excellent vehicle overall. I have only had to do routine maintenance and replace the timing belt at 100K miles.

However, over the last 4 years my dashboard has been cracking and falling out in pieces. I tried automotive glues and so forth that did not work because when I priced a replacement; they told me the entire dashboard had to be replaced and it would cost over $2,000 dollars. As a single mother and a nurse I cannot afford that. So I used a Tegaderm, this is a clear plastic bandage that nurses put over your IV’s they place in your hand when in the hospital. This has worked amazingly well but as you can see from the photos, the cracks are spreading out of control now.

I was researching online, when I saw there was a warranty extension of some sort. When I called my Lexus dealership in Nashville, TN about it they said I had missed it by a matter of months. I never received any letters or notifications of this warranty extension and therefore had no way of knowing about it. So I am writing to ask that since there is obviously a known defect in the dashboards- if there was anything that could be done to assist me in this matter?

I am trying to single-handedly put my son through college and I am working hard and cannot afford a new vehicle and doubt anyone would buy my Lexus with the dashboard crumbling off. What is underneath is a yellow foam that is very unattractive. I am going to have to drive this car for the next 4-5 years until my son graduates from college.

I wrote a letter and sent pics to Lexus Customer Service and all they said was it was not their fault that I didn't get the extended warranty letter!!! Horrible customer service!!

Brought car back to Lexus many times in the first few years and they wouldn't repair it. Said it was operator damage (leaving in sun, etc.... though it has been garaged since day one). Five years and many, many complaints (and class-action lawsuits) later and they finally issued a nationwide replacement program in early 2015. Meanwhile, my car is so bad I cannot have any passengers in it. Fast forward two years to January 2017, and lots of calls, and still nothing from Lexus. Dealers (I've called several) say they are receiving between two and four dashboards per week, and have hundreds of cars each to repair. Millions nationwide. Do the math, my car will never be driveable again. I need a new car, and sadly, after five Lexus cars, this is my last.
