The car worked well, there was no any indicator showing any issue of engine, the indicator of engine was NOT on, overall, there was no sign of any problem of the car. Then the car was left in garage for 3 weeks when we were on vacation, and then it was NOT able to jump at all, the battery is good. it was towed to one car body-shop, and no problem was found, then we had to tow it to another body shop, and finally they found the engine was damaged by lack of oil lube, or timing chain may have jumped. the guys from body-shop feels awful on this kind of problem with Lexus for such miles. The oil was always filled on time, and there is no light on to indicate low oil, and we checked with Lexus dealer with the report, and they also confirmed the engine need to be replaced, they also think it is not a regular issue that Lexus may have such issue. The cost would be range from $4000 - 6500.
Finally, we contacted Lexus customer, and they agreed on the uncommon problem. After a lot of back and forth between Lexus and us last week, one of them told us that they will cover us about half cost for this uncommon issue. But this morning (Monday), one of the ladies from Lexus said Lexus will not provide any assistance because we did not follow the dealer's recommendation of fixing something 3.5 years ago, because they said that may cause today issue.
The following are really unacceptable:
1. 10 year lexus with <120K miles could have this issue: stay in garage for 3 weeks then engine dies without any previous sign??
2. The professionalism of Lexus representatives: one of them said we will cover about half in a day, but the other said after a weekend that they would NOT provide any assistance because you did not follow lexus dealer recommendation to do certain maintenance 3 years ago, although that particular dealer recommended maintenance may not relate to today's issue.
