Update from Jul 1, 2021: Have paid a dealership fix the problem, however, they did tell me that this is a major problem on all Lexus GX470 and Tundras'.

Easy to fix with a bypass. The secondary air intake system is useless system in the engine that does not need to be there, 90% of cars do not have this feature. Lexus and Toyota vehicles are not really that great and all the owners lie about their issues. If you want this fixed properly it will cost you are $2500 at a dealership.

GX 470

  • Automatic transmission
  • 75,000 miles

I got this car brand new from the Lexus of Newport Beach dealer back in 2007. The car now has only 75000 miles on it. I searched over the net and I found out that this is a problem with Toyota V8 engine that is used in Toyota Tundra and Lexus GX470. It is a shame that they recall the Tundra but not the Lexus GX470.

The secondary air injection failure is a know issue. (code P1441) The same exact motor 2UZ-FE is used in the 2005-2009 Toyota Tundra, Lexus GX470 and some 4-Runner models. Toyota helped out their owners as they have admitted it is a design flaw, Lexus has refused. Comments made to me were the "vehicle is over 5 years old and we are not going to help with any of the repair costs". ITS THE SAME EXACT MOTOR!

I found a lot of blogs, documentation, etc from other Toyota and Lexus owners. My local Lexus dealer suggested to call customer service. Extremely disappointed. I bought the car based on reliability and longevity, not for prestige. I paid $2,440 to have the car repaired at Lexus. I didn't want to try and bypass the code, I want the car to be right....

Over a year ago the dash started cracking on my 06 GX470. I went to the dealer and had documentation that this was a known issue. They split the cost with me and replaced the entire dash. Earlier this year, a recall notice was sent to all owners regarding the dashes. I received a full refund of what I paid to Lexus.

Maybe this issue will end up being a recall. If you have any documentation that would help, please send comments or suggestions.

Thanks :(
