I recently purchased a Kia Sportage. On the test drive took it around the town and a very short highway jaunt less than a mile. Since the purchase I have driven it around where I live, however, today I took it on a longer highway drive. I typically drive alot of highway due to my job and is why i passed on the Kia Soul I really wanted for the Sportage for slightly more power at freeway speed. I noticed that I was micro steering back and forth ever so slightly just to keep it straight in the lane. I felt like I was driving my old 70s chevy monte carlo with rack and pinon steering that did that and hated it. Sad to say here I am with a brand new Kia Sportage, luv the look, rides great, nice features, seats comfortable, drives great in town under 45mph...ALL ruined by the Micro steering at freeway speeds, no way to relax and just drive to the destination. I traded in my Camry SE due to the harsh ride, but heck I would take the harsh ride over Micro Steering anyday due to the Incessant need at correcting the steering. I hope this saves someone from making the huge blunder I just made, if your going to get a Kia thats fine, get the SOUL it drove so good, luved that car now stuck with this bad steering monster.
Update from Mar 15, 2015: I decided to contact the dealer since I just purchased the Sportage and tell them of my concern about the "micro steering" as I call the problem. They got back with me immediately asked me to come in the next day. They pulled up several autos for me to choose from I took my choice and went with the Soul. They completely redid my deal no hastle no issues, all smiles, amazing experience. Even though I had issues with Sportage I not recommend enough the great experience from the manger and staff at the kia dealership, totally opposite of what i expected.
