Kia put out a recall to fix the rollaway issue - however, it does not fix the issue. Our car has the fix.
Several times in the last two months, when we have parked to wait for someone with the car running, the vehicle in park, the car has started to roll, and has rolled back into another car. Had someone been between the cars, it would have injured or killed that person.
As the Kia fix only puts the parking brake on when the car is in park AND the car is turned off, the fix is not a solution to poor engineering. The only true fix is to repair the transmission parking lock mechanism.
If you park, wait for someone, or to get our and get something from your trunk or open a gate, put on you brake manually, because this could happen to you.
