Girlfriend bought a used 2016 Kia Soul plus 2.0 about a year and half ago with 61000 miles on it. Car was great till we did the first oil change and started noticing the oil consumption that was starting to happen. Then started to notice it was getting really sluggish on highways. We brought it to a local repair shop and thought it was the transmission but he wanted to keep the car longer and dig into it deeper. He called us back a day later and tells us that it needs a new catalytic converter. So fast forward to now I put on new front brakes took the car to go get my girlfriend from work and check engine comes on while on highway got it home scanned it came up with p0420 went back to same repair shop was told that the catalytic converter is starting to get clogged up and to possibly start looking for a new car. We don't qualify for warranties were she is the second owner. So if anyone has any suggestions on this would be helpful.

I have a 2016 KIA Soul and during a routine oil change the advisor pulled me to the side and told me that my Soul was consuming oil. So, he told me to keep checking the oil and I should be okay, that my engine is covered for life if something happens as I was the original owner. BUT he also included that they will not fix it until my engine begins too or has a knocking sound which I did not understand. I know that KIA lost the 1st lawsuit involving this problem. BUT KIA is not issuing a recall - they are fixing these problems on a case-by-case basis, so many are unaware of the issue and by then it is too late.

The funny thing is I just started a new job and one of the guys there is having the same problem with his KIA. So, while reading on the KIA FORUM this problem is bigger than we think, and cars are catching on fire due to the lack of oil in the engine along with other problems which could have catastrophic consequence. What are we to do...??

Soul + 1.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 61,195 miles

We bought this 2016 KIA Soul brand new, and have always changed the oil at the correct intervals. Last time we took it in to have the oil changed, the shop said that the motor had lost some oil since the last oil change. Today I just checked the oil and it was down a quart in less than 3000 miles, and it's not leaking, since its always parked in the exact same spot, and not one drop on the ground. This is with only 62,000 miles, I will be taking it to the dealership in the next few days, and see if I can get the motor replaced under warranty. Hopefully they honor the 100,000 mile warranty, that was the ONLY reason we were even willing to get a KIA in the first place.

Funny that KIA just mailed us something last week telling us how important it was to change the oil at the correct intervals.... sounds like they are having a bunch of motors fail that they had to mail out warning notices.

Our last car had over 250,000 miles when we got this car, sounds like maybe we should have kept the Toyota, and skipped this KIA. The second we get it back for the dealership, we will trade it in for a different manufacturer.
