I purchased my 2015 Kia Soul in May of 2016 with only 12k miles on it. I had the vehicle shipped from Texas to Arkansas for only $225.00. I just fell in love with this vehicle it was everything I was looking for without the expensive price tag. The car was only 15k and they wanted 26k for the same vehicle at the dealerships. So, I felt quite lucky to find this vehicle. I didn't have any problems with this vehicle at all.
This last year the oil would vanish from the vehicle. no check oil light or anything came on. I took it back to the dealership and let them know what the problem was because, I take mine back to the dealership every time the oil needs to be changed. I keep every receipt in my glove box just in case. So, I am driving my vehicle to work on morning around 0530 am and the RPM'S would not go down - it sounded like it was struggling to keep up with the cruise control on. I drive an hour to/from work everyday. The engine light started to flash on and me being a single woman was like God please don't let my car die on this dark road because no one would see me until the sun came up.
God heard his child's prayer and let the check engine light go off. So, a few days later I was driving around town and the check engine light came on again. So, I took it to the Auto zone to use the check engine reader that they have and it tells me that it is a canister purge valve that needs to be replaced. I spend 58.00 to get that and another 50 or so to get it put on.
So, I think that everything is fine until I am driving to work again and it starts to do the same thing so, I decided to turn around and go back home and get my reliable vehicle my 2011 Toyota Corolla 5 speed. I have the vehicle parked right now because I am afraid to drive it because I am afraid that it will catch on fire and leaved me stranded on the interstate. I was told as a kid that people don't stop to help old, fat black women (back in the nineteen hundreds). Since, I fit into all those I always try to keep my vehicle well maintained.
I only owe about 4K on the vehicle. At this point I am at a lost as to what to do for the vehicle because there is no KIA Dealership in my town so, I would have to try to drive it an hour away to see what they would say about the vehicle. I am tempted to just let the vehicle sit in my garage and pay $100 a month on the vehicle to see if they would come and repo it because I know for sure they would not sell it because it is a lemon. I am sure they would just rig it up so some other poor person would get this vehicle and not know it's history. The really sad part about this whole thing is that I did my consumer reports research on this vehicle before I even purchased the thing. Makes you wonder if someone is getting kick backs for saying this is a good vehicle.
Update from Jan 26, 2021: I took my vehicle to another mechanic (WHICH COST $150 FOR DIAGNOSTIC) and he tells me that the vehicle has a misfire on cylinders 1 & 3 and that the vehicle also needs a catalytic converter. I don't mind getting the vehicle fixed if that is the only thing they may be wrong with it. I am afraid that it I do that it still will not fix the problem. I guess I will take a chance and see. if it requires more than that I may just think about getting rid of it. I have had about 7 vehicles in my life time and have never had this much trouble with a vehicle. Those vehicles have been HONDA, TOYOTA & NISSAN.
Update from Jan 30, 2021: I took my vehicle to a muffler shop and had a catalytic converter put on the vehicle and spark plugs (total cost $785.00). I drove the vehicle for the first time since before Christmas. I didn't seem to have any problems with the vehicle for my hour commute tonight. I did have to put a quart of oil in the vehicle before I drove it tonight. of course it was low. I still have about 2k miles before my next oil change. I'm seriously thinking about trading the vehicle before the engine goes out. I rather get a little bit of money for the vehicle before, it becomes and brick in my garage.
Update from Feb 9, 2021: 02/08/2020 I hope that everyone received their letter today for the recall on the engine saying they would replace the engine free of charge or pay for work that may have been done if you have your receipts.
