When I test drove my Kia Soul it was raining. I loved everything about the car, but the brakes grabbed. I talked to the salesman and he said it was because the car was right off the truck and the brakes needed to broken in. The problem persisted so when I got an unrelated recall notice, I mentioned it to the service manager. The recall service was done and the service manager said they couldn't find any problem with the brakes. I asked him to drive it while I rode with him. The brakes noticeably grabbed while he was driving and he minimized the problem. He acknowledged that there might be an issue. We both drove another Kia Soul where the brakes worked like normal (I drive a Ford at work everyday and the brakes on the 2nd Kia worked like the Ford, i.e. push the brake a little and they start to work, push a little harder and they brake more and push hard and you stop.) He said he would have to talk to the Kia engineers to determine how to fix the "issue".
The service manager called back and I brought the Kia back in for some more tests. He ran the test and said the braking test results were within the normal range. I complained to him and the dealership general manager; all they would say was that the test results were within the normal range. The service manager wouldn't acknowledge that the brakes grabbed while he was driving it.
I took the Kia to another dealership and described the problem and my experience with the other dealership. The technician test drove the car and said there wasn't a problem.
It should be noted that the problem is worse when just starting out, at low speeds and when it is raining.
Any ideas?
