Shortly after buying the Kia in November of 2017 it developed a problem where the steering wheel would stick when driving down the highway. It seems to get stuck either to the left or right of the center of the steering wheel. It takes a little extra effort to move the wheel past these sticking points and it becomes more difficult the faster the car travels. At highway speeds this is quite troublesome and dangerous as the problem is amplified and with living in a state that gets lots of snow and ice it's very dangerous. I do a lot of highway travel to and from work. This seems to be a constant problem and is now even affecting town travel. If you go over 25 mph this problem occurs. I have had many incidents that have caused me to almost get in an accident. We don't ever like to take my SUV on trips anymore. Heck I don't even like to drive it to work!

I have been to the dealer where I bought the car when it first started happening but they found nothing. A technician told me that I probably need to get used to the electric power steering. It's been over a year now and it's worse than ever. I think they know something is up and don't want to admit it. Is it going to take someone getting killed in an accident for someone at Kia to do something! I'll be taking my car back in and they will fix it or I'm going to make the buy it back!

This is not my first Kia, I love Kia but it will be my last if it's going to put my life, my family or friends lives or anyone on the roads lives at risk!

*SIDE NOTE: My dad thinks it might be that the little bar that locks your steering wheel when you turn the car off isn't descending all the way and that's why it sticks a little to the right and a little to the left because it can't go in the middle and you are jumping what's sticking up every time you try and adjust your steering.

I bought this car without a highway test drive, stupidly! It is stressful and tiring to drive on the highway for more than a few minutes. Cannot wait to trade it in. Otherwise it is a beautiful car, but not worth it due to this problem. The car needs constant adjustments to steering on the highway, it seems to be a problem when driving over 50 miles an hour. It borders on dangerous. Wish there would be a way to fix it. Step up, Kia! Or no more Kia products for me. Or anyone I know, if I can help it.

Sorento LX 3.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 5,100 miles

Steering hangs at 1200 o'clock when steering left or right and than goes all at once and then wanders a little. I have complained every time I had it serviced and even made a special trip in to have it checked and they say there is no code and they can't duplicate the problem. I will not keep it long if they can't fix it.

2017 Kia Sorento. As soon as I took it on the highway at speed, I noticed it would never find a neutral track and stay there. Had two dealers check alignment - perfect. All my prior cars would drive like they were "on rails", so if you touched the wheel to the left, it would come back to neutral. Not the Kia. If the road takes it to the left, and you touch to adjust wheel to right it keeps on going right, same if touch to the left. So on a highway drive, you are constantly making micro adjustments to keep it straight. Very frustrating. One Kia service manager said "that's just the way electronic steering is" vs. hydraulic steering. You have to keep eyes glued to the road. forget looking at the scenery. Kia needs to make a software fix. I should have test driven it on straight hiway at 60 before buying. Won't buy another Kia.

Sorento LX 2.4L

Haven't had my 2017 in for its first service but since its purchase it wanders, especially at highway speeds. Keeping it in the lane is work and wears on my patience diving any length of time more than annoying the longer the drive.have seen the same post before on other sites. hope there is a fix or at least a recognition. Sorry I bought the car at this point. no complaints otherwise actually very pleased and glad my money was well spent. However this problem is such an integral part of driving that I prefer to drive my 2003 dodge ram which has no such problem. Looking for a recall? Solution?
